Information to Parents/Carers

The school attempts to keep parents/carers as well informed as it is possible. We have a monthly newsletter, sent out on the first Thursday of each month, which outlines important dates and notices. We hold termly parents evenings to keep parents up to speed on children's progress. Each year group sends out its own newsletter at the start of each term, outlining learning areas to be covered as well as other pertinent information.

We also regularly send out information letters covering a wide range of current issues. The monthly newsletter can also be found in the News section of the website.

The governors meet formally every term and have various sub-committees with specific responsibilites such as Finance, Personnel, Premises and Curriculum.

For further information on Governors, please see the Governors page.

Behaviour & Discipline

Vicarage Primary School's Behaviour Policy attempts to encourage positive behaviour and discourage inappropriate behaviour through the consistent use of various levels of rewards and sanctions. It is hoped that this system will enable pupils to take greater responsibility for their own behaviour and as such contribute to a calm and safe learning environment.

Each classroom has a visual display of 'traffic lights' ie. red, amber and green circles with a name label for each pupil.
Rewards include stickers, certificates, good news letters home, prizes and whole class treats. The consequences of misbehaviour is based on the notion of second chances and choice: verbal warnings, use of the time-out table in class (amber), time-out in a partner class, loss of 15 minutes of the next playtime (red).
Behaviour Support staff encourage pupils to think about what happened, what other choices of behaviour they could have made and how they can resolve the situation.

The system, with appropriate adaptions, is used at playtimes and by lunchtime supervisors at lunchtimes. The system is also differentiated to the needs of Foundation Year pupils. The Behaviour Policy is seen as an ongoing piece of developmental work and as such is reviewed regularly.
